Traffic on I-85 near Bruton Smith Blvd./Exit 49 is expected to be heavier than normal for the Thursday afternoon commute. Thousands of race fans will be arriving for Bojangles Pole Night at the same time thousands of commuters will be driving home to the Concord area. Backups won't be as significant as during the races on Friday or Saturday, but commuters should attempt to leave work early and travel through the area prior to 5 p.m. The slowest traffic is expected between 5:30 p.m. and 7:30 p.m.
Highway 29 will be extremely congested near Bruton Smith Blvd. and should be avoided beginning at 3 p.m. through 10 p.m. on Thursday.
Commuters on I-85 should stay in the far left lane to avoid backed up traffic exiting onto Bruton Smith Blvd./Exit 49. For alternate routes around race traffic, click here.
