WEDNESDAY NIGHT: High clouds will build overnight, as temperatures drop into the low 30s to start the day on Thursday. Winds will start to increase early Thursday morning, gusting up to 50 mph for the high country. A Wind Chill Advisory has been issued for Ashe, Avery and Watauga Counties, with wind chills dropping down to -10 degrees early in the morning.
THURSDAY: We will start to feel the full effects of our next weather system Thursday afternoon, as highs will drop nearly 10 degrees compared to Wednesday afternoon. Expect a blustery day with highs in the low 40s under a mix of sun and clouds.
Temperatures will bottom out in the teens across the Carolinas by Friday morning under a mainly clear sky. This will mark our second morning in the teens so far this month, nearly 15 degrees below average and only a few degrees shy of the record low.
FRIDAY: After a cold start, temperatures will have a tough time rebounding through the afternoon hours as plenty of cloud cover will stay overhead. Highs will reach the upper 30s, staying well below average with dry conditions.
WEEKEND PREVIEW: The next concern is the threat for a very light wintry mix on Saturday morning. As of now it doesn't appear to last very long and may be more of an issue for the mountains than anywhere else. Temperatures will reach the low 50s by Saturday afternoon, and low 60s by Sunday. Expect showers both afternoons, with periods of heavy rain possible.
