FORECAST: Showers roll through ahead of muggy weekend

Very isolated, light showers will continue through the evening hours across the Carolinas. Expect muggy conditions to also stick around as temperatures steadily drop into the low 70s overnight.

It will be all about the heat, humidity and a few thunderstorms heading into the upcoming weekend. Temperatures Saturday afternoon will reach the upper 80s with a heat index well into the 90s. We'll start the day with a few high clouds, building by the afternoon hours.

Scattered thunderstorms will start developing by the afternoon hours, continuing through the evening and early overnight. Severe weather will be possible, with strong wind, heavy rain and frequent lightning the main concern.

Any storms that do form will clear by the start of the day on Sunday .

Temperatures will be a few degrees warmer for Sunday, reaching the low 90s in many neighborhoods. Factoring in the humidity, the heat index will likely climb into the mid-and-upper 90s by the afternoon hours.

Similar to Saturday, afternoon thunderstorms will be possible, but very isolated. Strong wind and heavy rain will continue to be the main concern.

Similar to our typical July pattern, a few afternoon thunderstorms can't be ruled out for Monday and Tuesday. Any showers that do form will be spotty, producing strong wind and heavy rain. The main story for the holiday will be the heat and humidity.

Highs will reach well into the low 90s Monday and Tuesday afternoon, with a heat index in the upper 90s.

Expect this unsettled pattern to continue through Thursday with highs staying above average in the low 90s.
