SC communities brace for more storms after flood waters damage roads

ROCK HILL, S.C. — More than a dozen roads were damaged in the Charlotte area, buckling from all of the rain that fell over the weekend.

With even more storms on the way Monday afternoon, several areas are still trying to recover from the weekend's damage.

A house on Roundtree Circle in Chester was struck by lightning early Sunday morning. The fire was contained to the attic, but the home suffered major water damage.

Officials said the ceiling is basically on the floor throughout the house and the family is being helped by the Red Cross.

Weather resources:

Rock Hill saw some very serious flooding over the weekend. At Running Brook Lane, near Dave Lyle Boulevard, a portion of the road had collapsed where a culvert was when water came rushing over.

Photographs from Channel 9’s partners at The Herald showed the area on Dave Lyle at the Manchester Village shopping area where at least two people had to leave their cars when water began to rise.

Firefighters said they performed 10-12 rescues from cars and homes on Saturday and Sunday due to flood waters.

The entire area received 6-7 inches of rain, and more of that weather is expected Monday afternoon.
