Storms, heat continue for Paralympic Team Trials in Charlotte

The 2016 U.S. Paralympics Team Trials for Track and Field kick off Thursday at Johnson C. Smith University. If you are planning on heading out to watch, you will want to keep an eye to the sky.

As events begin Thursday morning, temperatures will start in the upper 70s with some clouds in the vicinity. Shower chances remain low for the morning hours, but will increase throughout the afternoon and evening.  Although storms will be quite scattered during the day, any that form will be capable of producing heavy rain, strong winds and frequent lightning.  Despite the clouds sticking around through the day, temperatures will hit the upper 80s with a heat index in the lower 90s. Extra water will be a must for any attending or participating.

Friday will be the pick day of the trials, with mainly dry conditions expected. With a mix of sun and clouds, temperatures will build into the lower 90s. Humidity will be a huge factor Friday afternoon, making it feel more like the middle 90s.

Saturday morning’s events should not have any weather issues, with temperatures starting the day in the lower 80s. As clouds build through the midday hours, thunderstorms will once again be possible during the second half of the day. Similar to Thursday, thunderstorm threats include lightning, heavy rain and very strong winds.
