Support groups shift outreach during pandemic to help veterans

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — All this week, Channel 9 is continuing to take time to focus on the conversation surrounding mental health and mental health awareness.

With the isolation of the COVID-19 pandemic, face-to-face interaction is a challenge.

Groups that support veterans know all too well, it is harder now to provide help to those in need.

“We get calls for someone who is in a crisis," Officer Charles Gunter from Crisis Intervention said. “They want that one-on-one contact, where they can look someone in the eye and feel someone cares about them.”

Watch the video above as Eyewitness News anchor John Paul learns how these support groups have changed their outreach to help our veterans.

We hope you will join us Thursday at 8 p.m. on Channel 9 for Charlotte’s Hidden Crisis. It is an hour full of stories about people working through mental health challenges. There is a lot of proof that there is help and there is hope.
