MECKLENBURG COUNTY, N.C. — A well-known local artist said he is lucky to be alive after a road rage shooting Tuesday morning in Mecklenburg County.
Stefan Duncan, who has been referred to as one of the top living master contemporary artists in the world, said he is happy to be alive after a frightening encounter on Albemarle Road near the Cabarrus County line.

The driver in front of him then pulled into the right-hand lane and slowed down, according to Duncan.
Duncan said he was on his way to pick up his wife from the hospital Tuesday morning when an SUV cut in front of him. Duncan said he had to slam on his brakes to avoid an accident, so he hit his horn.
He said as he drove by the vehicle, his windows started to shatter.
"Suddenly, glass exploded in my face, and I thought at first somebody threw a bottle or something," Duncan said. "I'm really thankful I have another day."
The windows were busted out of his Kia, and there were at least six bullet holes, Duncan said.
According to a police report, the shooting caused at least $700 in damage.

"I am getting people all over the world writing and saying I have a guardian angel," Duncan said.
He told Channel 9 that before his mother passed away, she had a guardian angel medallion in her car. He recently put it in his vehicle.
Police told Duncan it is a miracle he did not get hit. There have been no arrests.
Duncan is thankful no one else was in the car and this incident wasn't worse.
"All I can think about is how my grandkids and wife weren't in the car, 'cause that would have been a pure tragedy," Duncan said.
