Cabarrus County community gearing up for school supply collection events

Caring community members in Cabarrus County are uniting to collect school supplies for local students through the 9 School Tools campaign.

During the annual campaign, WSOC-TV, in partnership with Communities in Schools of Charlotte-Mecklenburg and Classroom Central, asks the community to donate school supply items such as pencils, paper and backpacks to benefit students across 22 counties in North Carolina and South Carolina.

The Concord Fire Department is hosting two events to get community members involved.

On Aug. 3 and Aug. 10, the Concord Fire Department will hold its Stuff the Bus event at Walmart – Concord Commons. The Concord Fire Department will have a fire truck and the Fire Safety House present, along with a Cabarrus County Schools bus. From 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., community members can donate school supply items and engage with local fire officials.

“We expect this event to support hundreds of students from Cabarrus County Schools and Kannapolis City Schools,” said Cindy Fertenbaugh, board chair of the Cabarrus County Schools Board of Education.

From now through Aug. 25, you can donate school supplies at over 120 locations. The donations from 9 School Tools stay in the county in which they were donated, so any items donated at the Stuff the Bus events will benefit students in Cabarrus County.
