Channel 9's Food Drive hits home for family in need

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Channel 9's Food Drive is here. Families in the Charlotte area will be able to receive food they need to survive.

Two people in particular said they will greatly benefit from drive because of their lack of resources.

Velma Jones and her granddaughter, Kedezjah, said they try to never take food for granted.

Kadezjah now lives with Jones because her mother died of breast cancer.

They are living on a fixed income.

"Some people just can't afford to get all the food that they need," said Kadezjah.

They make ends meet with help from Second Harvest Food Bank.

Everything donated will go to help a local family in need.

"If it wasn't there, I don't know what we would do. I appreciate them doing (this), reaching out to people like us that need extra food and can't afford it and don't get food stamps. So I think it's a great thing," said Jones.

Because the Food Bank supplies food and essential grocery items to over 700 agencies feeding hungry people in 19 counties, a monetary donation helps all of these organizations.  For every $1 the food bank receives, they distribute 7 pounds of food. You can donate now by clicking on this link.

You can also donate non-perishable and canned food at any of WSOC-TV Family Focus partner locations Ashley HomeStore, Showmars, Hendrick Honda and E.R. Plumbing Services until June 10. Find a donation location near you by following this link.
