Charlotte first responders serving through the crisis

When crises occur, firefighters, police and MEDIC put their own lives at risk to save others. They answer the call, run toward trouble and lead the way.

First responders are the very definition of heroism by putting their lives on the line for the community every day, and are the first people on the scene when an emergency happens.

The Charlotte Fire Department has a lot to do during the coronavirus pandemic. Their department members’ positive attitudes and commitment to give back is a pillar in the little neighborhood in NoDa.

Known for its eclectic galleries and music venues, NoDa, which is short for North Davidson, has been home of the Charlotte Fire Station 7 since 1935. No. 7 stands as it was originally built when the city of Charlotte established the station to service the North Charlotte neighborhood.

A mainstay of anyone walking down North Davidson St. past No. 7 is always the friendly faces of those firefighters who are everyday heroes serving the neighborhood.

“We’ve always been here to serve our community,” said Capt. Jackie Gilmore, Charlotte Fire Department public information officer. “Even during these unprecedented times, our firefighters maintain a positive attitude and devotion to their work.”

In response to COVID-19, firefighters are now wearing masks, gowns, goggles and other protective equipment during medical calls.

“The extra equipment is there to protect our firefighters as well as those we are there to help,” Gilmore said.

The fire stations are also being disinfected at the beginning of each shift and throughout the day.

We want to thank these heroes for their service.
