CMPD, community partners preparing for backpack giveaway

As students prepare to return to learning next week with remote-only classes, the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department and several partner organizations including WSOC-TV, WAXN-TV and Telemundo Charlotte are making sure students have the necessary supplies to take classes virtually.

Even with remote learning, students will still need basic supplies to be successful in school.

On Saturday from 9 a.m. to noon, there will be three different locations where CMPD is distributing backpacks and school supplies.  This will be a no-contact drive-up event.

There will also be many nonprofit organizations who will also be onsite with their tents set up. Each nonprofit will be available to talk with drivers (who must remain in their car) about the resource they can provide.

Here are the locations:

  • Northwest School of the Arts (Metro Division) 1415 Beatties Ford Rd, Charlotte, NC 28216
  • Northside Baptist Church (North Tryon Division) 333 Jeremiah Blvd, Charlotte, NC 28262
  • Compare Foods Supermarket (Steele Creek Division) 201 W. Arrowood Rd, Charlotte, NC 28217
