Enchanting characters offer free virtual story times for children

From schools being closed to businesses mandating work from home policies, children and adults across the nation are staying home in an effort to prevent the spread of COVID-19.

But being shut in doesn’t mean you have to be shut off from fun, according to Angel, owner of Children’s Party Plus.

On Sunday, the Charlotte-based, small business will kick off its free, four-week virtual story time series hosted by some enchanting characters.

“So our mermaid princess is kicking off our story time and we’re going to have a ‘splashtastic’ time doing stories and singalongs,” said Angel. “We are just trying to bring as much magic as possible.”

Each week, a different character will spend 30 minutes bringing magic to the homes of children by reading stories, coloring and performing sing-a-longs. Their Bayou Princess Tiana will host the story time on March 29.

“Most of our characters will be princesses or maybe a superhero,” said Angel. “I really just want to drive home that we can still make some magic regardless of what we’re going through.”

Angel believes that taking a break and participating in activities centered around arts is a good way to cope with the anxiety and stress that comes with social distancing.

“Even if for just 30 minutes, we can forget about the coronavirus and just sing a song, read a story or talk to a princess,” said Angel. “We just want to encourage social distancing but also encourage some lessons and just show that you can still have fun in new ways.”

The story time series will be streamed live in the Children’s Party Plus Facebook group. To learn more about accessing the livestream, click here.
