Over 1,800 NC locations offering free summer meals to kids

The United States Department of Agriculture is making sure no child goes hungry this summer through its Summer Food Service Program.

The initiative is federally funded and state-administered, and provides free meals to kids ages 18 and under at registered summer meal sites.

The North Carolina Department of Public Instruction manages the Summer Food Service Program in North Carolina.

So far, over 1,800 locations across the state are designated meal sites.

Parents are not required to provide identification or to register for the program. Children can visit their nearest community meal site and enjoy a healthy meal free of hassle.

No Kid Hungry North Carolina encourages those in need of a meal to contact site locations before visiting to confirm serving days and hours.
