Union County Public Schools is asking for support from the community as the back-to-school season approaches.
The Union County Public Schools Back-2-School Tools Collection will be held on Friday at the Publix Super Market at the Shoppes at Hanfield Village. During the three-hour collection event, community members can donate school supply items for area students in need.
“This event is important because we are trying a different approach to the collection this year by utilizing a centralized drop-off location to accept donations,” said Becky Swiger, web communications coordinator at Union County Public Schools.
Student volunteers from Sun Valley High School and Weddington High School will be on-site to help sort, count and itemize the donations.
The New 103.7 radio station will broadcast live from the event.
For the past 20 years, in partnership with Communities in Schools of Charlotte-Mecklenburg and Classroom Central, the WSOC-TV 9 School Tools program has been collecting school supplies, which are then distributed to students in grades K-12 across 22 counties in North and South Carolina.
“We are equipping students who may not have the same financial opportunities as others,” said Swiger.
From now until Aug. 26, you can donate school supplies at over 40 donation locations. The donations from 9 School Tools stay in the county in which they were donated. You can find your nearest donation location by clicking on this link: 9 School Tools Donation Locations.
