5 things to know about Season 2 of 'Marvel's Runaways'

LOS ANGELES – The "Runaways" have finally run away, but their new digs aren't too shabby.

At the end of Season 1 of Hulu's adaptation of the Marvel comics, the series' six teens – Alex (Rhenzy Feliz), Gert (Ariela Barer), Nico (Lyrica Okano), Chase (Gregg Sulkin), Karolina (Virginia Gardner) and Molly (Allegra Acosta) – finally struck out on their own after learning about the nefarious dealings of their parents, who work for the evil Jonah (Julian McMahon) in exchange for wealth and power.

The second season is currently in production and features The Hostel, an underground, dilapidated mansion the runaways take shelter in as they figure out how to counter their parents' bad deeds.

When then new season returns next winter, the show will look a lot different.

Five things we learned about the new season after swinging by The Hostel and the headquarters of the parents' organization, PRIDE. And if you need to catch up on the first season, Freeform will air the series' first episode following the season finale of "Marvel's Cloak and Dagger," on Thursday  at 9 EDT/PDT (the rest of the first season is available to stream on Hulu).

The new season picks up the next day

Only 24 hours or so have passed since the end of Season 1, which included a climactic fight between the kids, the parents and Jonah before the teens fled.

"Our focus shifts to these kids and trying to survive in the streets," co-creator Josh Schwartz said. "And they're kids from Brentwood (a tony L.A. neighborhood); they're not really built for living on the streets of Los Angeles."

"They're learning to adult this year," Okano says.

It's faster paced

Many viewers criticized the first season of "Runaways" for its languid pacing: The kids didn't physically run away until the last episode of the season. Schwartz promises this season picks up speed.

“It’s going to accelerate. We are now running with our kids,” he says. "There’s a greater sense of tension and momentum in keeping with where we are in this part of the story.”

The story about Jonah and the PRIDE will be wrapped up in Season 2

Wrapping up the PRIDE storyline leaves room for new stories and characters from the comics, but producers are tight-lipped about new cast members.

"There are some characters that appear in the book who are appearing in Season 2, which we are very excited about but we obviously can't talk about," Schwartz said.

Season 2 will focus more on the kids than the parents

"Given the circumstances of all these kids being on the run, you absolutely will see a shift," Schwartz says. "The parents are obviously an incredibly important part of the story. We spent a lot of time last year getting to know them and investing in them, but the shift in focus definitely is more toward the kids."

Viewers will get to see the kids use their powers together

There were only a few instances in Season 1 where the runaways came together as a group to show off their impressive powers, which range from super strength to flight to a telepathic connection with a dinosaur. Season 2 allows them to be super more frequently.

"Everything about this season is bigger," Schwartz said. "We're really embracing that element of the show this year."
