Fall brings daytime family fun, fright-filled nights to Carowinds

Delightful by day, frightful by night, Carowinds’ fall events offer something for every age.

Returning Saturdays and Sundays, through Oct. 27, the family-friendly Great Pumpkin Fest is expanding to two additional areas in the park this year.

Once the sun goes down, Carowinds transforms from theme park to scream park.

Opening Friday the 13th and continuing select nights through Oct. 27, SCarowinds is not for the faint of heart. This year, it will feature five mazes, eight scare zones and five shows.

A few things to know before you go:

Arrive early to catch the new opening show, Overlord’s Awakening, at 7 p.m. at the Plaza Stage.

Go soon because the closer it gets to Halloween, the busier the park gets. Also, Saturdays are usually busier than Friday or Sunday nights.

If it’s your first visit, start at the back of the park where it’s less crowded, and work your way towards the front of the park.

If someone in your group finds it too intense, “No Boo” necklaces are available for purchase.
