Town of Marion celebrates Bigfoot with proclamation, festival

MARION, N.C. — Some call him Sasquatch, others call him Bigfoot. The people in the town of Marion call him their “official animal” and this weekend they’ll celebrate him during the second annual WNC Bigfoot Festival.

The event kicks off Friday night with an open-air screening of the 1987 classic “Harry and the Hendersons.”

There will be family-friendly activities, a Bigfoot calling contest, food, vendors and more throughout the day.

According to festival organizers, more than 30,000 people attended last year’s inaugural event.
