'Southpark Susan' to appear in court months after harassment video went viral

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — The woman charged in connection with a viral video, is scheduled to appear in court Wednesday.

Channel 9 first reported on Susan Westwood, known as “SouthPark Susan,” in October when video of her harassing two women in a parking lot went viral.

There are two separate hearings for Westwood Wednesday. The morning session will focus on her misusing 911, while the afternoon session will deal with the charges of communicating threats and simple assault.

More than a million people have seen the video of Westwood harassing two of her neighbors as they waited outside their apartment for AAA to jump their car.

The women said Westwood got in their face and berated them, asking the African-American sisters if they belonged in SouthPark and demanding to know how much they paid in rent.

"This is Myers Park,” Westwood can be heard saying in the video. “This is SouthPark. Ooh girl, girl, girl."

"Ma'am, would you please leave us alone and go home?" one of the women being harassed says to Westwood.

After the video went viral, Westwood was evicted from her apartment and fired from her job.

She was then arrested on a misdemeanor charge of misusing the 911 system, and charges of communicating threats and simple assault.

Attorneys said jail time is unlikely in this case, but Westwood could face an alternative punishment. There is also the possibility there will not be many other court dates, since cases like these typically get sent to mediation.

If that happens, Westwood's attorney will try to reach an agreement for her that doesn't result in prosecution.
