2 people injured in fall in NC park

ROARING GAP, N.C. — (AP) Two rock climbers from Raleigh have been hurt after they fell about 60 feet at Stone Mountain State Park.

The Winston-Salem Journal reported that a spokesman for the Division of Parks and Recreation said 31-year-old Lisa Bacon and 35-year-old Brian Safofsky were hurt in the fall Saturday.

Parks spokesman Charlie Peek said Safofsky was apparently trying to lower Bacon from one area of the mountain to another when she fell and he was pulled down.

Peek said both victims suffered broken bones. They were taken to Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center in Winston-Salem for treatment.

Stone Mountain State Park straddles the Wilkes and Alleghany county lines.

Peek said park officials will continue to investigate the cause of the fall.
