Abducted baby found in carrier on jogging trail

HOUSTON — According to ABC affiliate KTRK in Houston, an abducted 8-month-old girl was found near a running trail Monday morning.

The mother of Genesis Haley stopped at a gas station Monday morning. Police said she left the sleeping baby in the back seat of her running vehicle while she went inside the convenience store.

As the mother walked inside, she observed the thief get into her green Saturn Ion and drive away with the baby still inside.

The mother contacted police, who issued an Amber Alert for the abducted child. Hours later, investigators found the car abandoned next to an apartment complex.

The car seat and baby were nowhere to be found, prompting a search by air and ground.

Around 7:45 a.m., Hong Nguyen was out for her morning jog when she heard the sound of a baby crying from some bushes.

"I see the baby moving in the car seat so I called 911. I stayed with the baby," Nguyen said.

Police rushed to the scene and found Genesis in her car seat. She was taken to the hospital in good condition, treated for a few ant bites. She has been released to her the care of her mother.
