CHARLOTTE, N.C.,None — A Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools security guard has been fired from his job at Mallard Creek High School after he allegedly obstructed a robbery investigation.
Eyewitness News uncovered Dakeem Archer is facing a criminal charge of resisting an officer.
Charlotte-Mecklenburg police said the charge stems from their investigation of an armed robbery at Carolinas Medical Center-University's emergency room parking lot.
The crime occurred Monday afternoon.
Officers searched for their suspect, 17-year-old John Herrera, at Mallard Creek High School but could not find him. Police said Archer called Herrera to alert him to the investigation.
Hererra's mother defended Archer on Wednesday.
"He only said, 'John, I don't know what you're doing, but you need to go see the police at your house,'" Delmy Hererra said.
Archer refused to comment on the investigation.
Hererra's mother said she feels sick about the charges against her son. She claims police have no proof he committed the crime.
"I know my son. He's good," she said.
CMPD said Archer is enrolled at Mitchell Community College in classes to become an officer.
Officers do not think Archer played a role in the robbery.
Herrera is charged with false pretense, assault by pointing a gun and conspiracy. However, police said they are pushing to file armed robbery charges, too.
Eyewitness News attempted to reach school officials to determine if the charge against Archer could affect his enrollment, but the office was closed for the Thanksgiving holiday.
