Federal officials blitz businesses selling JUUL to minors

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration is cracking down on businesses that sell JUUL to minors.

The FDA says it's been doing a large-scale, undercover nationwide blitz, busting retailers that sell JUUL to children.

Officials said they caught 40 retailers nationwide.

Action 9 checked and four locations caught by the FDA are in the Carolinas:

  • Circle K on Highway 17 South in North Myrtle Beach.
  • Sheetz on New Garden Road in Greensboro.
  • Kangaroo Express on North Main Street in Mooresville.
  • Shell/ Food Mart on N.C. Highway 16 in Conover.

The FDA sent a warning letter to those businesses.

FDA officials said they recently asked eBay to crack down on JUUL listings on its website.  Federal officials said eBay took swift action to remove them.

Action 9 reported about the popular e-cigarette used by children last month. It looks like a thumb drive and plugs into a USB port. It's so discreet, some children said they sneak puffs at school.  One pod has as much nicotine as a pack of cigarettes.
