Fourth Ward homes to be featured in annual holiday tour

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — The annual Friends of Fourth Ward Holiday Home Tour will celebrate its 35th year with a three-day event.

The tour features Victorians, condominiums and historic places in the Fourth Ward area, all decorated for the holiday season. Throughout the weekend, choirs and hand bell ensembles will perform on the porches of neighborhood homes. There will also be horse and carriage rides through the neighborhood and samples from some area restaurants.

The North Carolina Dance Theatre is offering sneak peak rehearsals of "The Nutcracker" to tour-goers for the first two hours of the tour each day.

The tour was founded in 1977 by neighbors and was opened to the public in 1979. The tour proceeds benefit neighborhood projects such as neighborhood beautification, preservation of historic landmarks, and public art, social and safety programs.

Tickets are $20 and good for all three days of the tour, which runs from 5-9 p.m. on Nov. 30 and Dec. 1, and from 12-4 p.m. on Dec. 2.
