Heat, humidity build Monday afternoon, storms possible

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — The heat and humidity will be building on Memorial Day, according to Severe Weather Center meteorologist Keith Monday.

Highs return to the low to mid 80s and this will lead in the development of a few downpours.  These will be scattered in nature though, not widespread rains.  The activity will fire up in the mountains first and then make a run at the metro this afternoon.

The chance for storms will exist each afternoon this week as we heat up closer to 90 degrees.  The area should cool and dry a bit as we head to the upcoming weekend.

A few storms may fire up Monday afternoon with brief downpours.

Heat builds up Tuesday and Wednesday, with temperatures closer to 90 degrees.

Storm chances ease into the weekend.
