You know when you start looking at a car and all the sudden, you start seeing that car everywhere. I feel like that is what it has been like for me with signing up for this walk. Thank God, I’m not seeing a lot of people with cancer but I have started paying attention to how almost everyone is affected by cancer.

It makes me realize how important it is for me to be part of this, how important it is for all of us to do our part in finding a cure.

Since my focus right now is breast cancer, here are some facts that you may not know…

  • Did you know that 1 in 8 women will develop breast cancer in their lifetime?
  • Did you know that every 3 minutes, there is a new diagnosis of invasive breast cancer?
  • Did you know that every 13 minutes, a life is lost to breast cancer?
  • You have almost a 90% chance of survival with early detection!

No breast cancer in your family? Think it doesn’t affect you?

  • Did you know that about 85% of breast cancers occur in women who have no family history of breast cancer?

Makes it seem a little more important doesn’t it?

So how am I doing so far?

I have been walking every Saturday morning pushing my little girls in a stroller. I have been walking a few times a week, just a few miles. I just kicked in to a higher training level a couple weeks ago as I am about 16 weeks out - short walks during the week, longer ones on the weekend. The walks during the week stay short. The weekend walks build up but the top one is 16 miles and it is only once. I am excited as I have just downloaded some books on tape for my walks this week. I figure I could walk further listening to a good book.

On fundraising, I am about 50% of the way. So, I have a good amount left to raise. But I will get there. I still have friends and family donating. I am going to have a 31 Party but instead of getting discounts on bags as the host, I get a donation! So, if you want to donate, please do!
