Hot, muggy conditions return with afternoon showers likely

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Tuesday morning started off cloudy but more sunshine is expected to poke through the clouds heading into the afternoon.

It will be hot and muggy, with temperatures around 88 degrees Tuesday afternoon. A few afternoon downpours are possible, with the best chance for rain coming in the mountains and foothills. If the line of showers holds together, Charlotte could see rain around evening rush hour.

Rain chances will back down on Wednesday and Thursday, and as a result temps will heat up even more – with highs expected to be in the low 90s.

That heat won't last long though -- the Carolina Wedge returns this weekend, which means the Charlotte region could see several days in a row of clouds, cooler temps and rain.

Bertha was downgraded to a tropical storm early Tuesday morning. It is scooting to the northeast in the open Atlantic and won't be a factor for the Charlotte area.
