Inmate captured after escape from Buncombe prison

ASHEVILLE, N.C. — North Carolina corrections officers and McDowell County sheriff's deputies have captured an inmate who escaped from the Buncombe County Correctional Center.

Officials said 27-year-old Anthony Riddle, of McDowell County, was arrested late Wednesday morning at an apartment in Marion.

They said Riddle walked away from the minimum-security prison in Asheville on Tuesday night.

Riddle was serving a sentence of two to four years for larceny and possession of a gun by a felon. He had been scheduled for release in July 2015.

Public Safety Department spokesman Keith Acree said Riddle is being charged with escape.

He's being taken to the Mountain View Correctional Institution in Spruce Pine to complete his sentence.
