Second man arrested in hit-and-run that left Charlotte father, 4-year-old son hurt

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Police arrested a second suspect in a hit-and-run that seriously injured a 4-year-old boy and his father.

Isaiah Staley, 21, was booked into the Mecklenburg County Jail.

Last week, police said Noah Llambias, 21, turned himself in.

Police are still looking for one more suspect, 20-year-old Ralph Hall.

Llambias faced a judge for the first time on Friday after police charged him with a hit-and-run in a popular south Charlotte shopping center that left a father and son seriously injured.

Police said that on April 17, around 5:30 p.m., Nate Green was outside the Harris Teeter grocery store in Blakeney Village, off Rea Road, when he tried to get the attention of a man who was getting into a Volkswagen Passat.

Green didn’t know it, but officers said that the man had just stolen a 24-pack of Bud Light from the store and was trying to flee.

In trying to escape, police said the driver of the Passat intentionally hit Green while he was carrying his son, knocking them both to the ground.

They were both rushed to the hospital. Green suffered multiple injuries, including a fractured skull, and officials said he may never fully recover. His son had a deep gash on his head.

Green said his eyes still have trouble focusing and it is also hard for him to talk, sleep and he still can't smell or taste.

Green added his son's scars are more than skin deep as well. He said his son is skittish and scared of strangers.

"Some people he's like, oh are they robbers? He doesn't quite understand that everybody walking out of a store is not going to hit us."

Channel 9 spoke with Green Friday.

“It kind of shocked me when I saw the picture, " Green said. "I was like, woah, that’s him. I saw his eyes right before the accident. That vision is what I see every night before I go to sleep and now when I saw it again, I was like wow.”

Green told Channel 9 he has forgiven the suspects who hit him and his son, but he did have this question.

“I still would like to know what happened. Maybe it was just a panicked situation?”

Green said he is grateful for the community members who have stepped in to help him and his son in their recovery. Donors have donated about $10,000 to go toward their medical bills.

The family says friends, neighbors and complete strangers have also been helping them keep their bakery and catering business going.

Before the crash,  they were in the process of moving to another home. Since the father couldn’t lift anything, people have been helping them move too.

“I want to tell everyone thanks," Green said. "They’ve done so much for me and helped me get better. They helped the process I’m going through getting stuff done.”

Police charged Llambias with two counts of assault with a deadly weapon inflicting serious injury, aid and abet larceny, and hit and run/failure to remain at an accident with serious injury.
