BESSEMER CITY, N.C. — A woman was killed in a crash Monday on a rural road between Gastonia and Bessemer City.
The crash happened around 9:30 a.m. that day on White Jenkins Road.
The North Carolina State Highway Patrol said Kayla Hicks, 29, from High Shoals, was killed in the crash.
Troopers believe the car was heading south when it ran off the road, hit a driveway culvert, then a mailbox, and then flipped.
Hicks, the driver, died at the scene, they said. She was not wearing a seatbelt, they said.
Investigators said speed was a contributing factor to the crash.
The victim hasn’t been identified. No information was given about other injuries.
According to traffic management, the road was closed near Cherryville Highway but reopened by about 11 a.m.
