The wreck happened around 1 p.m. in the 10400 block of Mount Holly Road. Police said after crashing through the bridge rail, the vehicle fell onto the embankment of Long Creek.

The road was shut down for hours.

Benjamin Max Jones, 20, who was driving a 2002 Nissan Altima died at the scene.

Police said Jones drove off the roadway to the right and struck the concrete guard rail. His car overturned and went down the embankment, landing on its side in the creek.

Jones was not wearing a seatbelt and was partially thrown from the car, investigators told Channel 9.

Neither speed nor alcohol appears to have been a contributing factor in the crash.
