Teen accused in Pineville homicide shows up with gunshot wound at hospital

PINEVILLE, N.C. — A 15-year-old is in custody after police said a man was shot and killed Wednesday night in Pineville.

Nikidrien Bailey, 22, was shot and killed outside of The Pines at Carolina Place Apartments.

Family members said he lived at the apartment complex with his mother.

"And now you got his mother suffering and crying,” cousin Arlene Clyburn said. “That's her child and that hurts."

The shooting happened around 7:30 p.m. on Pine Acres Avenue off Lancaster Highway.

This is the second fatal shooting this month in Pineville, a town that hasn't had any murders for years.

Clyburn said she stopped by to comfort Bailey's mother.

Police said Bailey and the 15-year-old got into some kind of altercation.

They don't know what the argument was over or who produced the gun, but the two may have struggled over the weapon.

The teen was shot twice in the leg and Bailey was shot in the chest.

"He was never in trouble, had never got in no trouble,” Clyburn said/ “He was just a loving guy."

Police found the 15-year-old when he showed up with a gunshot wound at a nearby hospital.

"We don't believe there was an exchange in gunfire between the two,” Pineville police Lt. Corey Copley said. “At the moment, we believe the homicide victim and the suspect are acquaintances, so it's not an entirely random act."

Police said that both had clean records and they had never encountered Bailey or the teen before.

"These young boys need to put these guns down,” Clyburn said.
