1-year-old dies after being hit by vehicle in apartment parking lot, police say

LANCASTER, S.C. — Police said a 1-year-old child is dead after being hit by a vehicle Monday evening in the parking lot of a Lancaster apartment complex.

Officers responded just before 7 p.m. to reports that a 1-year-old child had been hit by a vehicle in the parking lot of Frank L. Roddey Homes on East Arch Street.

Police said that when they got there, Lancaster County EMS was rendering aid to the child who was taken to MUSC Health-Lancaster for treatment. The child was pronounced dead a short time later.

According to witnesses, the child walked in front of a vehicle as the driver was attempting to leave the parking lot. It’s unclear if the driver will be charged.

No additional information has been released.

This is still an active investigation by the Lancaster Police Department and the Lancaster County Coroner’s Office.
