106-year-old SC woman, daughter get COVID-19 vaccine

PAWLEYS ISLAND, S.C. — A 106-year-old Pawleys Island woman and her 74-year-old daughter got their second dose of the COVID-19 vaccine Wednesday, WPDE reported.

This is Mary Shumpert’s second pandemic that she has lived through. She was a young girl during the 1918 Spanish flu and is now living through COVID-19 with her daughter, Suzanne Harris.

Harris is her mother’s caretaker and said they are thrilled to be getting the vaccine together.

“It’s just so reassuring,” Harris said. “It’s not just us. We have our grandchildren and friends we would really like to see more of. And we want to play our part. This makes us feel better.”

Harris and Shumpert said they continue to follow COVID-19 safety protocols and wear masks.
