CMPD investigating possibility 13-year-old girl was sex trafficking victim

[Channel 9 would like to correct a previous story referencing a 13-year-old girl who we reported had been held against her will in southwest Charlotte. Below are the details from police clarifying our original report.]

CHARLOTTE — The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department is investigating the possibility that a 13-year-old girl may have been the victim of sex trafficking.

According to police, the CMPD human trafficking task was made aware that the girl was being treated at a local hospital on Jan.1.

Police immediately launched an investigation and found out the girl was communicating with representatives from an online escort service and negotiating a plan to make money through the escort service.

The investigation revealed that the victim worked with representatives of the escort service, but was never held against her will or in captivity, which Channel 9 had initially reported.
