ROWAN COUNTY, N.C. — A 19-year-old man’s body was recovered from a quarry in Rowan County Sunday afternoon, deputies said.

Authorities were called to the scene at about 3:30 p.m. on Balfour Quarry Road in Salisbury.

Officials said Emmanuel Konneh was swimming with three friends in Granite Quarry and said he never came back up after diving in.

Dive crews recovered Konneh’s body within an hour, deputies said.

His friends told deputies that they got to the quarry at about 2:15 p.m. after hearing about the swimming area from friends.

Officials said that Balfour Quarry is private property with a locked gate and is posted in several locations that no trespassing is allowed.

Due to it being private property, deputies charged Alexander Hernandez, 18, David Martinez, 20, and Luis Munoz, 21, on a citation for second-degree trespassing. They have a court date Oct. 6.
