2 loggerheads released off coast of South Carolina

CHARLESTON, S.C. — (AP) Two large loggerhead turtles are again swimming in the Atlantic Ocean after being released off the coast of South Carolina.

The turtles were released Wednesday after recovering for about 10 months at the Sea Turtle Hospital at the South Carolina Aquarium in Charleston. They were released offshore in the Gulf Stream where the water temperature is more than 70 degrees.

One of the turtles is named Miss Royal. She is 215 pounds and was picked up off Beaufort County with a propeller wound to her shell and right rear flipper.

The second turtle, weighing just over 70 pounds, is named Nud. The turtle found stranded in Georgetown County suffering from a skin infection. Nud received fluids, antibiotics and laser treatment to speed the healing process.
