Residents on edge after 3 teens shot in north Charlotte

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — A north Charlotte neighborhood is on edge after police said a drive-by shooting hurt three teenagers early Tuesday morning.

Officers were called to the area off Beatties Ford Road before 1 a.m. and said they found three teens -- one girl, 14, and two boys, 16 and 17-- outside the home suffering from gunshot wounds.

Paramedics treated the three victims, and police said one of them suffered life-threatening injuries.

Only Channel 9 was on the scene as investigators collected evidence and interviewed neighbors.

Many neighbors were so afraid they didn't want to be identified but said they are frustrated with the violence.

One neighbor said, "This is a senior citizen neighborhood, and we're not going to tolerate this in this neighborhood, especially with young people. No we're not."

Channel 9 found records that show a pattern of violence on that same block.

There have been three drive-by shootings, involving the same house, since January.

Teens were listed as victims in every case.

Officials said the teens have not been cooperative with investigators.

CMPD officers said they're aware of the problem but have not said if the previous shootings are connected to Tuesday’s incident.

"There are some things that I can't discuss. There are some things that are in motion. Things like this help speed things up," said Lt. Brian Sanders, with the CMPD.

Neighbors said they're hoping for a quick resolution, and they're grateful for the work officers are doing to keep them safe.

"They're doing their job in this neighborhood as far as I can see, they're doing their job. They're protecting and serving," said a neighbor who did not want to be identified.

Officers couldn't say if the teens were directly involved in the shooting, but they said they're reaching out to all of them to offer resources that could help keep them out of trouble.

There is no word on the condition of the three teens at this time.
