$5,000 reward offered in Beatties Ford fatal shooting

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Charlotte Mecklenburg police are asking for the public's help in locating a suspect accused in the deadly Beatties Ford Road shooting Friday.

Police found Donald Gist dead after being shot in the head at Queens Mini Mart on Friday afternoon.

Police said Arthur Givens is wanted in the slaying of Donald Gist.

Gist is the brother-in-law of the Columbia, S.C., Mayor Steve Benjamin.

Investigators are offering a $5,000 reward for information that leads to the arrest of Givens.

Police said is charged with murder, possession of a firearm by a felon, assault with a deadly weapon and communicating threats.

"He's got family in the Charlotte area, but we don't have any specifics on where he may be laying his head right now. So we're looking for every opportunity to get some assistance in trying to locate him," said CMPD homicide Capt. Cecil Brisbane.

Officials said Givens has an extensive violent history that includes several violent crime convictions.

He is to be considered armed and dangerous.
