71-year-old driver killed when truck crashes into pole in southeast Charlotte

CHARLOTTE — A 71-year-old man was killed when the 2016 Chevy Silverado he was driving slammed into a telephone pole at about 1:40 p.m. Thursday in southeast Charlotte, police said.

Evan Brown III was driving northeast on Briar Creek Road near Central Avenue when he lost control and drove off the road striking the pole, according to Charlotte-Mecklenburg police.

Brown was not wearing a seat belt. He died at Atrium Health’s Carolinas Medical Center.

Investigators said speed was not a factor in the wreck and authorities do not know if he was impaired.

No other vehicles were involved.
