Action 9 investigates local repairman after 2 years of complaints

Action 9 reporter Jason Stoogenke investigated a local repairman nearly two years after complaints first started surfacing about him.

A couple turned to Stoogenke weeks ago when they said the man took off with their money and their ice maker.

Linda and Jerry Spencer bought a Samsung refrigerator three years ago.

When their ice maker went out, they called A1 Service and Appliance Repair.

They said repairman Dan Savercool took the ice maker to replace it and took $257 up front.

"Immediately, when I gave him the check, I knew that I had made a mistake," said Linda Spencer.

They said he told them he would be back.

"We multiple, multiple times tried to call him and there is no answer," Spencer said.

Action 9 found complaints online about Savercool, including criticism on Angie's List.

Last year, Action 9 reported two other customers had problems with him.  At the time, he promised to make things right.

In June 2012, Savercool said, "I'll fix everything. I don't have a problem with that. I'll fix the problem or give their money back or whatever."

One of those customers Stoogenke tracked down said he still hasn't gotten his money back.

Now, a year and a half later, Stoogenke went by his business in Gold Hill.  The door was unlocked, but he didn't see anyone inside.

Savercool called and left a voice mail saying he accidentally overcharged the Spencer's and missed an appointment with them because of a family emergency.

He also said he wanted a chance to defend himself.

On Nov. 18, Stoogenke left two different phone numbers for him and a message, but still has not heard back from Savercool.
