CHARLOTTE, N.C. — A number of proposed developments that would bring more commercial space as well as affordable housing to areas near the Lynx Blue Line were approved by Charlotte City Council on Monday night.

Separately, two rezoning petitions were withdrawn: one in the Commonwealth neighborhood off St. George Street that would have added eight homes on a 1.3-acre site — a proposal that faced opposition last month because of environmental concerns relating to a nearby floodplain — as well as a transit-oriented proposal by Mission Properties near the Blue Line’s Tyvola Station.

Two of the three proposals expected to include affordable housing that were approved on Monday were filed by Charlotte-based Laurel Street, which specializes in mixed-income residential projects in Charlotte and elsewhere. An affordable-housing project proposed by The NRP Group was also approved at the meeting.
