Airport passengers on the rise in Charlotte

CHARLOTTE — According to a release from Charlotte Douglas Airport, the airport greeted 10,334,799 passengers from January to March 2014. It was a 2.2 percent jump from travelers who visited the airport during the same time period in 2013.

Passengers flying abroad also experienced an increase during this time period, climbing 2 percent from the previous year.

Operations were affected by thousands of weather-related cancellations nationwide. Aircraft movements decreased from 135,000 landing and departures during the three-month period in 2013 to 130,199 this year.

Cargo numbers were down 2.4 percent, as the airport handled 30,849 tons of cargo during the first three months of this year. Last year, that figure was 31,620 tons.
