CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Executives from American Airlines Group Inc. gathered Tuesday at Charlotte Douglas International Airport to formally celebrate the hub carrier’s latest expansion — a milestone that has pushed AA past 700 daily flights.
Brent Cagle, the city aviation director, cited American’s additional gates and service as part of the travel demand and economic strength fueling the airport’s $3 billion makeover scheduled to be finished in 2025. American (NASDAQ: AAL) operates its second-largest hub at CLT, accounting for 90% of all flights.
“We’re still growing; we’re always growing,” Cagle said. “It’s a great sign.”
In December, American added service from four renovated gates on Concourse A.
Dec Lee, head of the American hub in Charlotte, said Tuesday that the additional gates allowed the airline to add 30 flights, depending on time of year and scheduling.
Last summer, American operated 680 daily flights from Charlotte; with the expansion on Concourse A, that figure is 705.
