American Airlines will require its customers to wear face coverings

CHARLOTTE — American Airlines will be requiring its customers to wear face coverings beginning July 29, its website says.

Except for children under 2 years old, customers will be required to wear a face-covering in the airport from where the trip begins, through any flight connections, until where it ends. A covering can be a mask or any secured cloth that covers the nose and the mouth, like a bandana or scarf.

The airline is also asking that its customers confirm they have no COVID-19 symptoms at the check-in counter.

A small number of face coverings may be available at the gate, but they will not be available for each customer on every flight. American is asking that travelers bring their own. Customers who do not wear face coverings might not be allowed on their flight, or on any future flights with American Airlines.

Customers can take off their face coverings to eat or drink, but must put them back on when they are done.
