American, US Airways tweak fees, mileage rules

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — U.S. Airways customers who rely on their miles to fly out of Charlotte Douglas for free may have to start paying to check bags.

American Airlines and U.S. Airways are changing their policies on checked bag fees and redeeming miles for free flights.

Frequent fliers on both airlines will be allowed to check one less free bag than before.

The two carriers merged in December to create the largest airline in the country.
