Atrium Health CEO talks timeline for medical school in Charlotte

CHARLOTTE — Atrium Health CEO Gene Woods gave more details on Tuesday about the system’s proposed, four-year medical school. The plan is to break ground in the spring of 2022, barring unexpected circumstances.

Leaders hope to finalize the school’s design this winter, Woods said at a board meeting.

“We’re really excited about what this will deliver as states like ours and Georgia and others look to come out of this pandemic,” Woods said. “We believe this will be one of the largest job-creation initiatives in the state of North Carolina, in addition to being transformative.”
