Atrium Health launches virtual hospital care for COVID-19 patients

CHARLOTTE — Atrium Health is bringing hospital care to patients’ homes as the Charlotte-based health-care system prepares for an increase in coronavirus patients.

On Monday, it rolled out “Atrium Health at Home,” a program that monitors eligible patients from their own homes. The program is for patients who test positive for the novel coronavirus, or COVID-19, and need close monitoring but not intensive care. Each participating patient will receive a monitoring kit, which includes a blood pressure cuff, pulse oximeter and thermometer. The kit will be delivered to the patient’s home.

“This is a safe way to care for the appropriate patients at home and is comparable to what they would receive in the hospital,” said Dr. Scott Rissmiller, chief physician executive at Atrium.

Atrium enrolled its first three patients on Monday.
