BELMONT, N.C. — The chief of police in Belmont has been terminated Friday, according to the Belmont city manager.
A meeting was conducted with Belmont Police Chief Charlie Franklin on Friday morning. He was presented with a notice of termination.

The termination was based on issues related to unsatisfactory job performance and detrimental personal conduct.
Franklin was suspended last Friday.
Franklin requested a formal removal proceeding with the Belmont City Council. The council will then make a final decision on the termination action.
