Biological mother of missing Rowan Co. teen plans vigil

CONCORD, N.C. — The biological mother of missing Rowan County teenager Erica Parsons is back in the area ahead of the one-year anniversary of her disappearance.

Erica’s adoptive brother reported her missing on July 30, 2013, but she hadn't been seen since November 2011.

Her biological mother Carolyn Parsons took a bus in to Concord Wednesday night and she plans to spend the next month there.

“To see that little smile on that little girl's face, and then know that I never got to see her again, it breaks my heart,” Carolyn Parsons said Wednesday night.

Parsons said she is planning a vigil to mark one year since Erica was reported missing.

Erica's adoptive parents Casey and Sandy Parsons said Erica went to live with her grandmother in Asheville.

But authorities have repeatedly said that grandmother does not exist and they don't believe the adoptive parents are telling the truth.

The lead detective on the case resigned last week but the Sheriff's Office said other detectives are still actively investigating it.
