Blaze at home near NoDa was intentionally set, CFD says

CHARLOTTE — A fire at a home near NoDa was set on purpose, according to Charlotte Fire Department investigators.

No one was hurt when a fire tore through the home on Wednesday afternoon, according to the Charlotte Fire Department.

Firefighters said heavy flames were showing when they responded to the home on East 35th Street not far from The Plaza after 4 p.m.

People were at home during the time of the fire, but were able to get out unharmed, CFD said.

Firefighters said they rescued “Ice,” a cocker spaniel puppy, from inside the burning building.

The dog was hiding under a bed when he was found, CFD said. He is doing well, firefighters reported.

Thirty Charlotte firefighters needed a half an hour to control the flames. The fire caused more than $40,000 in damage, CFD said.

Four people and the puppy were displaced in the fire.

Anyone with information on the case is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 704-334-1600.
